How Do You Store Kombucha?

So you made too much kombucha...

Making kombucha at Kefirko

Kombucha is delicious - that's a fact. the best thing about DIY kombucha is that you can make as much of it as you like, but that can sometimes leave you with more kombucha than you can actually drink!

KombuchaDon't throw it away. If you don't want to share it - you can store it.

There are a few things you need to remember to make sure you successfully preserve your kombucha. After all, you want it to be drinkable when you return to it.

It's important to ensure that your SCOBY is in plenty of tea. Not enough tea = not very happy kombucha.

Also, if you are storing your SCOBY for a bit longer than usual, it can be best to avoid refrigerating it. Refrigerating your SCOBY can make it 'sleepy' and prone to mould.

Key things to consider when leaving Kombucha stored:

  1. Do not leave your kombucha in direct sunlight.
  2. Make sure that your kombucha has plenty of liquid to sit in.
  3. Make sure that your kombucha is well covered to prevent insects

Remember, if you have left your kombucha for a long time - it may not be too happy to see you! It may even be undrinkable. Again, don't throw it away! Instead, why not make some vinegar? The stronger your brew, the better it is for you - so make a vinaigrette, throw it on a salad or some chips and get a tasty probiotic boost.

Don't forget to put some of your liquid aside to act as your starter tea for the next brew. Enjoy!
